Correspondence, minutes, reports, course announcements, course outlines, and other course materials; photographs, manuscripts, and reprints of speeches and articles; and miscellaneous printed material. These relate to the administration of the department, conferences, workshops, projects, student affairs, and other departmental matters under Anna Alline (who ran the nursing course before the department was officially established), and chairwomen M. Adelaide Nutting, Isabel Maitland Stewart, and R. Louise MacManus. Records from 1961-1982 are sparse. Subject files relating to nursing legislation, international nursing, nursing organizations, and other topics relating to nursing and nursing education are included. Also, constitution, bylaws, minutes, correspondence, financial records, and publications, 1911-1944, of the department's Nursing Education Alumni Association, and minutes, reports, correspondence, publications, 1951-1968, of the department's Institute of Research and Service in Nursing Education. Of note are correspondence, notes, photographs, and miscellaneous documents, 1920s, relating to trips to Russia and Japan to inspect nursing and health facilities.

The Dept. of Nursing Education originated in 1899 as a course offered in the College's Dept. of Domestic Service. It was established as a department in 1910, and was headed by M. Adelaide Nutting, the first nurse to hold the title of professor in a university. The department played a pioneering role in nursing education.
